It’s been almost a month since I’ve had an opportunity to post. Between the new job, the current book project, conference season and life there just isn’t enough hours in the day to get everything done. Here’s a quick recap and something that are coming up on the horizon…
As always, PASS Summit was a phenomenal event that brought together the SQL Server community for a week of networking and learning. The announced attendance was over 5,000 and while that is down slightly from the prior year, this was the first east coast event and it was an awesome well-run experience. Summit will be back in Seattle in 2014, so start planning early so you don’t miss it!
At Summit, I was a rookie presenter. I presented a session titled, Running with Elephants: Predictive Analytics with Mahout and HDInsight. The session went well and I have had a lot of good feedback. The session recording should be available in the next couple of weeks and I look forward to the session reviews and any feedback on where I can improve in the future.
Training on the T’s – An Introduction to Pig & Hive
Tuesday, October 29th, I am presenting an online Introduction to Pig and Hive. If you are interested in getting started with Big Data this session is one you will want to check out. It’s free and being hosted by my former employer, Pragmatic Works. To register for the session go to:
SQL Live 360
SQL Live 360 is coming up, November 18th in Orlando, FL. I will be presenting three sessions spread across two days. I have session on Sematic Search in SQL Server, Master Data Services integration and a deep-dive into troubleshooting performance issues with Analysis Services. If you haven’t registered for this event, I’d invite you to do so. The weather will not only be great in Florida for my friends in cold weather parts of the country but this conference is co-located with a couple others that are targeted towards developers and SharePoint so you can blend together a unique experience at zero extra cost. Book Release – Building Performance Dashboards and Balanced Scorecards with SQL Server Reporting Services
My first book as lead author will be available November 4th. The book covered techniques for building dashboards and balanced scorecards (and other analytical reports) with SQL Server Reporting Services.
Upcoming Book – Microsoft Big Data Solutions (coming Feb, 2014)
I am currently part of a team that is diligently working on a new book project that covers Big Data on the Microsoft platform. I’ll have more info on this going forward.
I have a couple of interesting blog post coming up that introduce and discusses NoSQL databases. Beyond that I want to open it up and cover topics that are important to you. I will be posting a poll to see what content is important for you and what you would like to see. Please take a moment to vote!
Till next time!
